Educational Talent Search

 

The TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program helps prepare and motivate students in grades 6-12 to succeed in college. ETS participants receive academic advising, information on college, careers, and financial aid, as well as opportunities to visit colleges and participate in educational activities. All services are FREE for student participants.  

Free Student Services

ETS offers a variety of free services to help you prepare for college and career success:  

  • Help with choosing the right classes to get ready for college (A-G courses)
  • Referrals to tutoring services available at your school or in the community.  
  • Practice and prep for college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT.
  • College campus visits and enrichment activities.  
  • Information about careers and college majors to help you plan your future.
  • Step-by-step help with college applications and financial aid forms.
  • Information on scholarships and other ways to pay for college.
  • Referrals to other support programs and resources.

Who Can Join?

As a federally funded program, TRIO Educational Talent Search follows guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education.  

Students must:  

  • Demonstrate the potential to succeed in postsecondary education.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident, or in the process of becoming a Permanent Resident.  
  • Meet at least one of the following:
    • From a low-income family (based on federal guidelines).
    • A first-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree)

How to Apply  

Applications are available in English and Spanish.

Online Application:

Paper applications can be turned in to the ETS advisor at your school or submitted to the school’s main office.
